The Advocacy Behind the Park

Parc des Familles is a 610-acre park with abundant green space, including a 2,000-foot elevated boardwalk through a cypress swamp, dog parks, nature trails, picnic areas, and pavilions. It also features a unique Par 65 disc golf course, a splash park with multiple water features, a 5-mile mountain bike trail, and a four-field baseball/softball complex.

Friends of Parc Des Familles was created to support and promote the park as a place where families, neighbors, and visitors can come together to enjoy the outdoors and build community. Through volunteer efforts, partnerships, fundraising, and special events, we work to enhance the park, encourage recreation, and help ensure that Parc Des Familles remains a welcoming destination for generations to come.

FEATURED ACTIVITIES

Disc Golf

Grand Cypress Bayou at Parc Des Familles, home of the DGPT Big Easy Open. This is one of the most challenging courses in the world. Despite the difficulty, there is a layout for nearly every skill level. The course is currently ranked #1 in Louisiana, and #80 in the United States.

Mountain Bike Trail

The purpose-built trail is primarily singletrack featuring berms, easy drops, twisty sections, and a few short climbs. It’s ideal for beginners and a fast, fun workout for more experienced riders. The trail is directional.

Fishing Pier

Parc des Familles’ freshwater fishing pier is a 100-foot dock with bench seating, perfect for casting into the quiet bayou waters. Anglers regularly catch bass here, while the surrounding cypress swamp often rewards visitors with sightings of alligators and deer. It’s a peaceful spot for a relaxed day of fishing and wildlife watching.

Kayak Rentals & Launch

Kayak rentals and launch at Parc des Familles offer easy access to the quiet canal waters. A wheelchair-accessible launch with two bays makes boarding simple for kayaks, canoes, or pirogues. Nearby, a self-serve kiosk from Bayou Adventure rents single kayaks ($20/hour, includes life jacket and paddle). Perfect for a peaceful paddle through the scenic cypress surroundings.

Splash Pad, Dog Park and Inclusive Tot Lot

Parc des Familles Spray Park is a free, fenced splash pad with about 20 water features to keep kids cool. We also offer a large dog park for your pets. As of August 2026, we have formally broken ground on an inclusive tot lot designed with ADA accessibility.

Hiking

Hiking at Parc des Familles features a 2,000-foot elevated boardwalk through the woods, a 3.7-mile wooded hiking and cross-country loop, and a short nature trail—ideal for a peaceful walk in the park’s natural setting.
